1st Sunday of Lent
The good news of the Gospel challenges us to change ourselves and our world for the better. This week’s story takes us to rural Cambodia where Samon lives with his family, between Sam Reap and the Thai border. Like many children in his province, Samon’s parents died of HIV/AIDS when he was a young child. He went to live with his Aunty and chronically ill Uncle and their two children. Despite working hard to support her family, Samon’s Aunty found it difficult to have enough money to buy food, pay medical bills or send the children to school.
Caritas Australia’s partner, Salvation Centre Cambodia, supports poor families and children orphaned through HIV/AIDS with training in micro credit and farming skills to increase food production and empower future generations to help themselves.
By attending small business training and learning how to grow sustainable crops, Samon’s Aunty has been able to open a market stall to sell food for income. She has also been able to buy chickens to breed and sell. Caritas has also supported the building of water pumps and community ponds that have ensured clean drinking water as well as year round gardening and food sustainability for Samon’s family and the community.
The ‘Happy Happy’ Program run by the project allows Samon and other HIV/AIDS orphans the opportunity to play games, learn hygiene and life skills and to help raise awareness of HIV/AIDS.
Your donation to Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion helps to eradicate hunger and poverty for vulnerable families like Samon’s and brings hope for a brighter future.

Year of the Priest
We contemplate our Blessed Lady, the Mother of Jesus, standing at the foot of the cross of her Son, our only High Priest, with St John the beloved Apostle and priest close by her. Jesus said, “Woman, behold your son” and “Son, behold your mother” (Jn 19:26 - 27) Just as Mary helped Jesus to grow, so she also helped the Church to grow in the beginning. She helps to form every priest. She has a very tender love and special protection for every priest.

One morning a travelling salesman stops at a farm. He rings the doorbell and Harry’s wife Mavis, opens the front door.
'Is your husband home, Ma'am?’ the salesman asks politely.
'He sure is,' answers Mavis, 'He's over in the cow barn.'
'Well, I have some important items to show him, Ma'am. Will I have any difficulty finding him?'
‘I wouldn't think so. Harry will be the one with the beard and moustache!'

.
Dear children! May this time be a time of personal prayer for you, so that the
seed of faith may grow in your hearts; and may it grow into a joyful witness to
others. I am with you and I desire to inspire you all: grow and rejoice in the
Lord Who has created you. Thank you for having responded to my call.”

Stewardship
Reflections 6th Sunday in
Ord. Time
The words of the psalmist echo the theme of all of today’s readings. “Blessed are they who hope in the Lord.” As good stewards, firmly grounded in that hope, may we bear fruit in due season - assisting the poor, feeding the hungry, and consoling the sorrowful whenever we have the chance. See Psalm 1
