On Sunday 1 February, the feast of St Brigid of Ireland, when the parishioners of St Brigid's Catholic community in Mt Magnet gathered after their weekly Liturgy for morning tea, two cousins from Boogardie Station, Gerard and Jacob Jones, shared with us some research they had done about our patron saint, Brigid. Gerard told us aspects of Brigid's life. As a community, we would like to emulate these qualities of Brigid - kindness, wisdom and generosity. Jacob taught us how to make a St Brigid cross. This cross is said to keep dangerous fires away and to help sheep birth their lambs well. Our pastoralists are thinking they will have to make many crosses to put around their vast properties.
