Geraldton Diocese Appoints New Director of Music

The Diocese of Geraldton is pleased to announce that Jacinta Jakovcevic has been appointed as the Diocesan Director of Music for the Diocese.   Jacinta comes to this position with a wealth of knowledge and experience.

One of Australia’s foremost liturgical musicians, she was appointed to the National Liturgical Music Council (Australian Catholic Bishops Conference) and gives presentations at national conferences on liturgical music. She also sits on the National Council of the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) Australia and is the chairman of the West Australian branch of the RSCM.

Jacinta is also nationally recognised as an organist and performs both internationally and nationally.

She has also taken part in ABC broadcasts and extensive work with major organisations including the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO), Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), the University of Western Australia and the Australian Opera Studio.

Appointed organist in 2000 and then Director of Music in 2008 at St Mary’s Cathedral Perth, Jacinta established many programmes for the development of young people in Church music including the Cathedral Choir’s special training programme for young boy trebles, the Young Organists Programme, the Cathedral’s Organ Scholarship, a Cantor training programme and the Orchestral Mass project.

She also established many opportunities for the Church conecting to the wider community including the Cathedral’s Concert Series, Community Singing series, and hosted many national and leading international artists at the Cathedral including, The Sixteen (UK), the Tallis Scholars (UK) and Johann Vexo (France).

Jacinta is currently establishing a young people’s/children’s choir in Geraldton at St Francis Xavier Cathedral. She is also available to provide tuition for children and adults to play the piano and pipe organ located in St Francis Xavier Cathedral in Geraldton, which is a powerful and fantastic instrument.
