Diocese of Geraldton Pastoral Plan for a Synodal Church

On the Feast of Christ the King Bishop Michael officially launched the Geraldton Diocese' Pastoral Plan for a Synodal Church at the 9.30am Mass in the Cathedral of St Francis Xavier Cathedral.

Bishop Michael concelebrated Mass with Fr Gerard Totañes V.G., the key organiser and Lead Facilitator of the Geraldton Synod.

The process of the Diocesan Synod took place throughout 2024 and 2025 where the Clergy of Diocese, Religious, Principals, Organisation Leaders and key parish people gathered in round table conversations. A process adapted from the recent Parramatta Synod.

At the conclusion of Mass Fr Gerard Totañes VG presented the Official Pastoral Plan of the Diocese to Bishop Michael.

The next phase is for Parishes to slowly implement the resolutions contained in the Plan.

Vision Statement

We are:

* a welcoming community which reaches out to all
* celebrating Christ's presence
* joyfully living out our Christian calling across distance and diversity

This vision states that as a Diocese, we aim to be a welcoming, missionary, centred on Christ, and each striving to live one's particular vocation. It is in living out our calling that we praise God, follow Christ, influence society and achieve the goal of eternal life won for us by Christ. In the parishes we have encouraged people to measure whatever they do against this Diocesan vision.
